Inside Sir Alex Ferguson’s Home Heating Upgrade
Sir Alex Ferguson is undoubtedly one of the most iconic figures in football, renowned for his unparalleled success as the manager of Manchester United. Therefore, it was a privilege when we were approached to upgrade the heating system in his home.
The need for heating system maintenance and upgrades remains ever-present. In the case of Sir Alex’s home, his heating system wasn’t working efficiently. The main issue with the existing heating system at Sir Alex’s home was one that’s common to many, both large and small. The heating system was poorly distributing heat, which meant that whilst some radiators were hot, others were lukewarm or not getting hot at all. As temperatures dropped throughout the winter months, the system struggled to keep pace, leaving rooms inconsistently heated.
Synergy Heat was entrusted with the task of revitalising Sir Alex’s heating system. Our expert team of engineers undertook an upgrade project that was designed to optimise comfort and ensure the system’s reliability for years to come.
Our Approach to the Heating Upgrade
Central to the upgrade was the installation of a low-loss header. This provided hydraulic separation between the primary (boiler) and secondary (radiator) heating circuits. This addition helped to stabilise flow and return temperatures to optimise heating performance. This was installed next to the two existing Vaillant ecoTEC plus 637 system boilers and the Vaillant uniSTOR unvented hot water cylinder. As members of Vaillant’s Advance installer scheme, we’re well accustomed to working with Vaillant’s range of products and we were able to demonstrate our expertise and skill with them during our work at Sir Alex’s house.
In conjunction with the low-loss header, a Grundfos Magna1 central heating circulating pump was deployed to pump heated water efficiently from the new header to the radiators. This dedicated pump allowed for precise control of water circulation, operating at the ideal speed to meet heating demands and maximise overall system performance.
To address existing issues and prevent future complications, we dosed the heating system with Fernox F3, a pH-neutral liquid cleaner that effectively removed any sludge, scale, and debris to restore heating efficiency and eliminate boiler noise. A power flush using the Norstrom Proflush then cleared the system of detritus, ensuring optimal operation and longevity.
Finally, the central heating system was dosed with Fernox F1, a market-leading inhibitor that prevents corrosion and limescale formation, providing superior protection and prolonging the system’s lifespan.
